MDIS-SHTA Explore Collaboration on Engineering Programmes

Dr Eric Kuan, President of the Management and Development Institute of Singapore (MDIS) welcomed the seven men team from SHTA council led by Sunny Chin, SHTA President, and shared some of the future plans of the Institute. In the pipeline are engineering programmes that include aeronautical and environment engineering.  Both organisations agreed on the synergy in exploring on harnessing human talents development to meet the ever changing economic landscape of Singapore business environment to leverage on technology to drive the SME’s businesses. Areas for cooperation include:

  1. To identify and develop engineering programmes that will fit the skill level for

       a. MRO in Aerospace Industry

       b. Instrumentation in Environment Engineering Industry
       c.
    Medical Technology in Life Science.

  2. MDIS to consider internship and industrial attachment at SHTA member companies.

  3. SHTA members can also collaborate with MDIS on engineering-related projects for student research.

  4. SHTA to encourage members companies to engage in providing engineering related talks and seminars to MDIS students.

The Honorary Secretary General of MDIS, Dr R Theyvendran, also suggested both organisations explore ways to publicise the courses among employees in the Association’s companies who would like to acquire or upgrade their knowledge and skills. SHTA President, Mr Sunny Chin suggested MDIS management to explore the opportunity to have fulltime students taking up permanent jobs on allowance working on half the time and leave the other half for their study.  This will provide incentives to employers to engage student based on their longer working duration commitment.  This initiative will complement employers sending their staff for night classes at MDIS on part-time programmes that start after 7pm on weekdays.MDIS members at the meeting were:
